Consumer Christmas pt 1.

Every year Brooke and I have a discussion about Christmas and it's meaning. And every year I think that somehow I am missing "it". We as Americans, as Christian Americans, have lost the real meaning of His, Jesus', birth. You know? And of course I know part of this season is about family and community...but there is more. It's more than gifts, trees, food, family and friends. We as Americans are the richest people in the history of the world and what do we do? We obsess over what we don’t have!

There is a counterfeit "christmas" story that culture is telling us: when we get what we want, we will be satisfied, Happy. This lie pervades our marriages, families, neighbors, friends & local churches.

Hang with me for a moment...
Last year during the holidays, as we celebrated our Messiah's birth, Americans spent a record 154 billion dollars(this is a conservative number). That is roughly $795.86 per person. Every year we spend 18 billion dollars on make up; 15 billion dollars on perfume; 17 billion dollars on pet food...and the list goes on.

To be continued...

Silent voices.

Before I begin sharing some stuff on an issue that breaks my heart every time, I want to share with the world that we are with child again...:)

Matthew 18
1At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, "Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?"2He called a little child and had him stand among them. 3And he said: "I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. 4Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
5"And whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me. 6But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea. (This is about how God values children)

Abortion. We all know what it is and how God feels about it. Ummm...I wanted to show you a video. It is about 8mins long, and there won't be any graphic pictures or things like that.

Daily Bread.

Word.
There truly is nothing like God's Word. Moses proclaimed to the people of Israel, 'Gods words are not just empty words for you, THEY ARE YOUR LIFE! By OBEYING them you will enjoy a long life in the land you will occupy when you cross the Jordan River' (Dt. 32:47). Jesus told his disciples that His words are spirit and LIFE (Jn. 6:63).
Jesus quoted Dt. 8:3 when He was being tempted by Satan, saying 'Man shall not LIVE by bread alone, but by EVERY WORD that proceeds out of the mouth of God' (Mt. 4:4). And we all know James 1:22, 'Be doers of the Word and not hearers only'. By humbly sitting at the feet of Jesus, soaking up His Word (just like Mary in Luke 10:39) we are doing the 'one thing that is needed'. - Jeremy H.

Faith.
Hebrews 11:1-10
* It is impossible to please God without it!!!!
Faith sees superior realities to things that are before you that have been called impossible.
Faith lives with a conviction of superior things then what you can see in the natural.
* It is impossible to please God without being aware of unseen things.
It is impossible to please God apart from the burning conviction that God has a better way, that God has an answer to every impossibility.
Lk. 1:37

Faith comes from what? Hearing the Word. rom. 10:17

Poor Kid.

I just love this picture. He wasn't very happy when I told him he couldn't ride on the tractor!

Nov 4th.

Still waiting...(for the final say with our home). In the mean time my kids have just been blessing me silly. I love watching them learn (everything).
Something that has been on our hearts, as parents, is Joel 1:3. I hope to leave with them a clear picture of God. Not my opinions about Him, but what His word says about Him. Anyways, just a small prayer request for my son, Micah - He has food allergies and it is really hard to feed him things that we eat everyday. He is allergic to dairy & peanut-butter. His allergy is so bad he has an "epi-pin". So we are praying that God just takes it away. Thanks for praying.
